Rhetoric Center Staff
Our staff includes Calvin students with diverse majors and interests: |
Emmalon Davis '10 - Philosophy
Emmalon is a philosophy major who loves to sing medieval chansons in her free time. She likes to write poems, essays, research papers, children's books, annotated bibliographies, abstracts, summaries, and more. Emmalon can help you with any writing need you may have. Just don't bring her a math paper...she still counts on her fingers. |
Tony Ditta '12 - Math, Economics, Computer Science
Tony is a math and econ major with a minor in computer sciences, so he gets to use a lot of the left side of his brain. Please (please!) let him creatively help you with papers to give the other side of his brain a chance. Let him help you choose a topic and map out the direction of your paper, or, if you've already written it, make it more concise and
clear. Seriously. He'll help you with whatever rhetorical needs you have.
|
Brandon Haan '10 - English/Religion, Pre-Seminary
I really like writing, but I realize that not everyone shares my enthusiasm. That's why I like working in the RC. Not only does it afford me the opportunity to help people out, but it also gives me the chance to help others enjoy writing too. Come on in to see me. We'll have a good time, and we'll also take a good look at whatever it is essay, short story, oral presentation, etc.) you want to work on. |
Bettina Keyzer '12 - English (?) Secondary Education, Dutch
Bettina hopes that frequently changing her major will help people see what a well-rounded person she is. This is beneficial for you, because it means that if you need help with English, Spanish or Dutch, she's your girl. Oh, and Bettina loves to bake, so in addition to some awesome help on a paper, you might just get a cookie. |
| Dan Knapper '11 - English
We are all constantly learning. Dan, for example, is currently honing two
new skills: driving a manual shift Volkswagon and picking up tennis. Need
some help with writing? Dan can give you some pointers. But if you're a
fish, it's best to stay away. |
Cara Kochanski '10 - Psychology, Gender Studies
Like any good student of Psychology, Cara is all about the ideas, emotions, questions, and struggles that tie into one's experiences with rhetoric. Delight her, and stop by with any of your hang-ups, fears, and uncertainties related to writing and/or other rhetorical things. |
Susanna Lynch '10 - Biochemistry
Susanna enjoys waking up early, long walks, used bookstores, and avoiding homework. Don’t let the science major fool you. She loves helping you with any kind of writing dilemma. If you bring your paper and a good attitude, she'll bring a smile and a pencil. |
Tim Perrine '10 - Philosophy
Tim enjoys sunsets and long walks on the beach. He drinks more coffee than anyone should. He hates trimming his beard [not pictured]. He'd love to help you analyze and improve a paper at any level of detail. |
Rebecca Schmidt '10 - English, Classical Studies, Writing
When Rebecca's not at the RC, you can probably find her watching Battlestar Galactica, How I Met Your Mother, or some other fantastic tv show. She also enjoys playing video games, arguing about the Kindle, and drinking coffee (especially white chocolate mochas). Stop by the RC to see her for some fun brainstorming, exciting thesis writing, or anything else paper-related. |
Daniel (Dong Cheon) Syn '12 - Business/Economics
Hi, I'm Daniel, a Korean, not Chinese or Japanese, and I love to read and write, play sports, listen to music on my housemate's stereo, which came all the way from Taiwan, a country that speaks Chinese, a language I'm studying at Calvin even though I'm a Business/Economics major, and this occupies a lot of my time, BUT I enjoy discussing papers with you, so come visit me at the RC. |
Jon Tilton '11 - Media Studies
In his free time, Jon enjoys watching animated movies, specifically Pixar films and reading the Scott Pilgrim books. He's also an avid listener to a handful of geeky podcasts, including Radio Lab, Totally Rad Show, ListenUp, The Slashfilmcast and This Week in Tech. |
Matt Walters '10 - International Development, Gender Studies
Matt especially likes biking, cooking, and gardening. Feel free to bring him papers about those things. Oh, and he would be happy to help you with any other topics too. |
Danny Zoetewey '12
Danny thinks fishing, baseball, complicated handshakes, and hymns are
all pretty cool things. If you need any help with a paper you're working
on, you know where to find him.
