News and Events: Public Forum: Intervention in Syria: Understanding the Debate

On September 24, 2013 the political science department held a public forum on the situation in Syria. A panel made up of two professors and two students started the event. Student, Jona Eigege, provided opening remarks regarding the history of the conflict; Prof. Westra discussed the perspective of international institutions including the UN, the Hague Conventions, the CWC, and customary international law; Prof. McBride followed with the perspective of great power politics, specifically the United States and Russia; and Martin Awabdeh, a student from Syria, shared a few things about what it is like as a Syrian national to observe these events from afar. After the panel discussion there was a time for questions from the audience.
