Education Background

Professor Chaffin is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Political Science at Western Michigan University where she also obtained her M.A. in Political Science in 2010.  Professor Chaffin earned a M.P.A. with an emphasis in Nonprofit Management in 2004 and a B.B.A. with an emphasis in Human Resource Management in 1999 from Grand Valley State University while working in a professional capacity in Human Resources.

Recent Activities

Professor Chaffin is teaching American Politics at Calvin College and she is also currently a Graduate Assistant for the University Center for Humanities at WMU.  Professor Chaffin is completing her dissertation research that examines the intervention of U.S. and state governments into the labor market during times of economic recession through the expansion of Social Security, unemployment insurance and training programs over a 20-year period from 1990 to 2010.
