Majors,
Minors, and Courses
Courses:

course schedule is searchable, view the courses offered this semester
and next.
The Astronomy
and Physics
sections of the 2007-08
course catalog describe all courses we offer, as well as majors and
minors in our department.
At right, a group
of Phys133 students design an experiment to measure the dependence of
air drag on velocity. Majors and
Minors: There are several basic "flavors" of physics major at Calvin. The first
is the minimum Physics Major, intended for students who wish to complete
a bona fide physics major, but keep as much room in their programs as
possible for courses (or majors) in other disciplines. The second flavor
is the secondary education major, since there are some special requirements
for prospective high school physics teachers. Finally, students who want
to go to graduate school in physics or astronomy, or who simply want to
learn as much physics as possible while in college, can complete a longer,
more in-depth major (typically including a minor in optics or astronomy).
Students should read
the details of the majors and minors in the Astronomy and Physics sections of the course catalog.
Students planning
full programs are advised to plot out their courses for all four years
of their time at Calvin. The sample four-year
schedules below can assist students in this planning, but each student is
responsible for planning a program that meets all catalog requirements:
