Messier 106 is a galaxy that was originally found by Pierre Méchain in 1781. The galaxy is a spiral and is located within the Canes Venatici constellation.This particular galaxy is of the Seyfert II variety meaning that due to x-rays and uncommon emission lines that radiate from this object make M106 a very plausible candidate for eventually falling completely into a supermassive black hole. Scientist  suspect that a black hole does indeed lie at the center of this. This galaxy has a water vapor maser that is visible from the 22-GHz line of ortho-H₂O which indicates that a dense, warm molecular gas inhabits this. Although M106 is  warped, thin and almost verging on edge to the Keplerian disk, it does surround a central area with a mass of four x 107M⊙.

M106 is at a equatorial plane which is inclined to the line of sight, which is very similar to the Andromeda galaxy. It is a normal spiral type, but the pattern on the dust lanes are very prominent in this galaxy and are able to be vividly traced into the bright central region of the core. The ends of the spiral arms are knotted and the yellow colour signifies that it more massive stars are older. They have been estimated by J.D Wray to calculate to several hundred million years old.distance is 170,000 ly away and the apparent angular size dimension is 19x8 arc minute.
