Pelican Nebula

The Pelican Nebula is a large area of an emission nebula, which is a nebula that shows an emission spectrum due to the energy that has been captivated from one or more hot and luminous stars and reemitted by the nebular gas at specific wavelengths. It is in the H II region and linked with the North America Nebula in the constellation Cygnus. The pelican nebula got its name because it is shaped like a pelican. The Pelican has a mainly active mix of star formation and evolving gas clouds which will cause this nebula to no longer be known as the Pelican millions of years from now because the placement of stars and gas will leave something that will appear totally different.

This portion of the Pelican Nebula is a mixture of a light red purple clouds and blue gray clouds. The blue clouds are areas where warmer gas is present and the red clouds are the areas where cooler gas is present. This nebula is a mixture of 2 or more gases, one being hydrogen which is the red cloud. The linear size of the Pelican Nebula is 39.27 light years.
