Ph.D., Colorado, 1983

Research Interests:
Professor Haan has professional interests in theoretical atomic physics and in elementary-school science education. He is interested in photoionization--in which laser light removes electrons from atoms--and in the reverse process of photorecombination. Most recently he has been doing computer modeling of double ionization of atoms by intense laser light. He has received continuous NSF support for his research since 1986, and has involved students since 1987. Professor Haan also spends professional time working in K-8 science education, and much of his teaching is in elementary-education science courses.
