Education:
Ph.D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1997

Research Interests:
Dr. Haarsma studies extragalactic astronomy and cosmology. Her publications in the Astrophysical Journal and the Astronomical Journal include studies of the expansion rate of the universe (using gravitational lens time delays), star forming galaxies in the early universe (using radio emission from early supernova explosions), and a survey for gravitationally lensed radio galaxies. gravitational lenses to determine the expansion rate of the universe, the relationship between radio and infrared emission of star forming galaxies, and a survey for gravitationallly lensed radio lobes. She has received observing time on the VLA (Very Large Array) and VLBA (Very Long Baseline Array) and GBT (Green Bank Telescope) Radio Telescopes, the Kitt Peak 4m optical telescope in Arizona, and the Gemini Telescope in Hawaii. She did her undergraduate work at Bethel College in St. Paul, MN.

Origins: A Reformed Look at Creation, Design, and EvolutionDr. Haarsma also speaks and writes on topics of science and Christianity, and has recently published Origins: A Reformed Look at Creation, Design, and Evolution with co-author and husband Loren D. Haarsma. Their work was recently featured in the Religion section of the Grand Rapids Press, the source of the photo (above) of them together in the Calvin Observatory.
