November 9 - Ongoing research into the effects of the global electric circuit on clouds and climate
Alumnus Josh Vanderhill, graduate student, University of Texas at Dallas
Ongoing research at the University of Texas at Dallas is beginning to highlight the importance of the global electric circuit (GEC) on cloud microphysics and global climate. Monte Carlo simulations of particle scavenging show behaviors which differ based on droplet size, ultimately affecting precipitation rates and storm patterns. Meanwhile, analysis of polar weather data shows pressure fluctuations based on varying solar magnetic fields, which affect the GEC. Time will also be given to highlight physics research opportunities at the University of Texas at Dallas.
