John Van Zytveld Summer Research Fellowship established
We are pleased to announce the establishment of the John Van Zytveld Summer Research Fellowship.
The Fellowship funds a student to do a research project with a professor in Physics & Astronomy. It honors Professor John Van Zytveld, who led an active research lab at Calvin for nearly 30 years (1968-1996), giving many students their first taste of scientific research.
Since leaving Calvin, Dr. Van Zytveld has served at the Murdock Charitable Trust. This year he retires and Murdock has donated $20,000 in his honor, plus $10,000 if Calvin is able to raise the additional $30,000 needed to endow the student fellowship. Dozens of generous alumni and friends have already contributed, including a generous gift from Research Corporation of Tucson, Arizona, and the first fellowship will be awarded in summer 2010. We are eager to raise additional funds to cover project supplies, student travel to conferences, and faculty stipend, so please consider adding your support.
