Academic Programs: Recreation

The recreation program offers three emphases area, those being

  • Therapeutic recreation,
  • Community recreation, and
  • Youth leadership.

Students in Calvin's professional recreation program earn a B.S.R degree in Recreation and may also take optional courses in recreation therapy that qualify them for professional certification in therapeutic recreation.

Common Courses: PE 201 (3), REC 203 (3), REC 304 (3), REC 305 (3), REC 310 (3), REC 346 (12), PE 380 (2)
Cognates: SW 350/PSYCH 201 or PSYCH 207(3), PSYCH or SOC 310 (3), PE 220 (3), PE 221 or 222 (2)

Recreation Minor:
REC 201 (3), REC 305 (3), REC 310 (3), Plus 3 Other Approved REC Courses One of Which May be An Interim Course (3)

Emphasis Area Courses

Therapeutic Recreation:
REC 205, REC 314, REC 324, MATH 143 or PSYCH/SOC 255, SW 370, PSYCH 212

Community Recreation:
PE/REC 215, REC/PE 301, ENV ST. 201, PS 202, REC 308, REC 312

Youth Leadership:
