Healthy Habits: Ambassadors

What is an Ambassador?

?

Why Ambassadors?

Healthy Habits is a program designed to promote and integrate wellness into the culture of Calvin staff and faculty. Through the Ambassador Program, we are able to put a “face” to Healthy Habits. Establishing this culture encourages a community of committed individuals seeking the same goal.

What are the roles of an Ambassador?

  • Model a Healthy Lifestyle in your department and building:
    • Participate in Healthy Habits programs and encourage others to do so as well
  • Familiarize yourself with all Healthy Habits programming in order to field questions about:
    • Annual cash incentive and HealthByChoice.
    • Activity classes.
    • Seminars and workshops.
    • Challenges.
    • Special events.
    • Sports activities such as basketball and volleyball.
    • Recreational programs (kayaking, rock climbing, biking, etc.).
  • Communicate Healthy Habits programs information in your department, division and/or building:
    • Promote programs by word of mouth.
    • Promote programs in your department meetings.
    • Post monthly newsletters, program fliers and special event notices.
  • Periodically assist with Healthy Habits programs if you are available:
    • Assist with challenges (eg: volunteer to be a “stamper” location for a Passport to Health incentive).
    • Assist with celebrations (eg: greet participants as they arrive; serve food).

What then are the roles of Healthy Habits in relation to Ambassadors?

  • Establish a network of Ambassadors.
  • Provide training, information and updates on new and existing HH programs.
  • Have methods in place to keep Ambassadors informed about Healthy Habits offerings.
  • Listen to and respond to suggestions from Ambassadors.
  • Be an on-going motivator for Ambassadors.
  • Hold quarterly luncheons for Ambassadors.

Why does it work?

Behavior modification is facilitated successfully when groups of individuals share a common goal. Group participants share their experience and strengthen each other. What better way to change the culture and attitude at Calvin about personal wellness than at the department level!

What are the incentives?

What’s in it for you? You will be the first to know about Healthy Habits offerings. You will also receive special Ambassador incentive gifts and invitations to quarterly Ambassador luncheons. You will also be recognized as playing a leadership role on campus!
