Washington D.C. - Application

Application Procedures and Deadlines
(Note: Admissions to this program are made during the preceding spring semester.)

I. Application: Upon approval of the preliminary application (see below), the student will be sent a memo informing him/her of the Director of Off-Campus Programs' approval. The online program application location and instructions will be sent to the student via email once the preliminary application is approved.

Preliminary Application (Calvin students)
Calvin students wishing to apply to any off-campus program must first submit a preliminary application (available online or in the Off-Campus Programs Office, HH 322). This is used by the Director of Off-Campus Programs to verify a student's eligibility for off-campus study. This processing of the preliminary application normally takes 1-2 weeks.

Guest Application (Non-Calvin students)
Calvin College invites students from other colleges and universities to apply to its programs. Such interested students should request a Guest Application from the Off-Campus Programs Office (see below). Status as a guest student normally allows the applicant to remain a student at his/her home institution for purposes of financial aid, etc.

II. A. Deadline for General Internship Program: Because of high student interest in the Semester in Washington, DC program and the length of time required to develop student resumes, etc., the Department of Political Science and Off-Campus Programs have set an early admissions deadline for applications to the program. Students must apply during the spring preceding the year they wish to attend the program.

For a student to receive full consideration for admissions to the Spring 2009 program, a preliminary application (available on-line or in the Off-Campus Programs Office) must be completed and submitted to the Off-Campus Programs Office Office by April 1. The program application (sent to student after the pre-app is approved) must be completed and submitted online by April 15, 2008.

If there are places remaining in the program, another round of admissions may occur in the fall. There are limited spaces available for the program.

II. B. Deadline for Social Work applicants: April 15, 2008. Social Work practicum placements are available to a limited number of students. The social work applicant must submit the preliminary application and the program application. For information regarding the procedures required for approval by the Sociology and Social Work Department, see the Practicum Director.
