|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Program:The Hong Kong Baptist University, founded in 1956, is a public tertiary institution with a Christian heritage, offering a broad range of undergraduate degrees. The University is committed to a liberal tradition of education, an approach which broadens the mind and encourages relational learning, critical thinking, introspection, life-long learning, and the free communication of ideas. Located in the heart of Kowloon, the University is comprised of two campuses, namely the Ho Sin Hang Campus situated on Waterloo Road and the Shaw Campus on Refrew Road, both easily accessible from all parts of Hong Kong with only a 10 to 15 minute walk from the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) and Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) stations. The International Student Exchange program at Hong Kong Baptist University serves to enhance internationalization of both local and visiting students. The international student will be housed in the NTT International House on campus and will share a room with a local Hong Kong Baptist University student of the same sex. With such an arrangement, cultural exchange, language enhancement, and a broadened global perspective will be maximized, giving students the edge in international relations. Course offerings:HKBU provides opportunities for undergraduate studies in about 40 programs/majors/options leading to the award of Honors Bachelor's degrees in the areas of Arts, Business Administration, Science, Social Sciences, and Social Work. International students are required to take a course in Chinese Language and Culture and are encouraged to take a Chinese Religion and Philosophy course. In June, following the spring semester, international students may elect to participate in a specially designed two-week study tour in Beijing, exploring Chinese history, culture, society, and the legal system in conjunction with visits to historical and culturally important sites in Beijing. Cost:Students will be charged Calvin tuition per semester to study at Hong Kong Baptist University and a $125 administrative fee. This total fee will cover the cost of tuition at HKBU, a residence hall room (double occupancy), a meal stipend ($600/month), and airfare up to $1,250. A receipt for the airfare must be submitted to the Off-Campus Programs Office for reimbursement.
*Due to the climate in Hong Kong, air conditioners are highly recommend for use 24 hours a day in the residence halls; however, it is an optional expense for the student and is controlled from a student's room. Contact:For further information, contact L. Herzberg, Department of Germanic and Asian Languages, the Off-Campus Programs Office, or the HKBU homepage. |
