Belize & New Zealand

Creation Care Studies Program (CCSP)

Belize or New Zealand/Samoa
Fall or Spring Semester

Belize - Central America

Program:
In addition to studying Creation care, living in community at Nabitunich in Western Belize is an important part of the semester. Built on the site of a Mayan ruin, Nabitunich has stunning views of a nearby Mayan temple towering above the rainforest. You could be exploring that tropical rainforest yourself, or swimming in the Mopan river, after only a short five minute walk from Nabitunich. While studying with CCSP there are opportunities for independent travel around Belize and other countries in Central America.
This program fulfills the CCE credit under new core.

Required courses: (4 credits each)

  • God and Nature (new core - Religion 200 level core-Theological Studies)
  • Introduction to Sustainable Development (new core - ENST 210, 302, or Global & Historical Studies)
  • Ecosystems of the Tropics (new core - Biology 300 level elective)

Elective courses: (3 credits each)

  • Introduction to Latin American Studies

The South Pacific - New Zealand and Samoa

Program:
Living in community at Orama Christian Center on Great Barrier Island is an important part of the semester. Orama is nestled in its own private bay surrounded by native forest, yet close to the community of Okiwi and only 2 hours ferry ride to Auckland - the gateway to New Zealand. While Orama will be CCSP's "homebase", students will travel to other parts of New Zealand. While on the program students also spend several weeks studying Creation care on the Polynesian island of Samoa. Opportunities for independent travel around New Zealand or the South Pacific also exist while studying with CCSP.
