Interim Exchange Program

What is it?

The Interim Exchange Program allows qualified students from other 4-1-4 colleges to attend Calvin during the Interim without paying tuition if those schools permit Calvin students to attend their Interims on a similar basis. Likewise, Calvin students are allowed to study for interim at other 4-1-4 schools which have exchange agreements with Calvin.

Who is it for?

Students participating in Interim exchanges ordinarily must have at least sophomore status; must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0; and be in good academic and social standing.

Where can I study?

In past years, Calvin has had exchange agreements with many different colleges, such as:

Austin College Hastings College
Berea College Huntington College
Bethel College Messiah College
Eastern Nazarene College Taylor University
Greenville College Whitworth College
Gustavus Adolphus College

Since most schools do registration for Interim later than Calvin, our list for the Interim Exchange agreements are constantly changing. Please check with the Off-Campus Programs Office for the most up-to-date copy of agreements.

Occasionally, students find other 4-1-4 institutions that they would like to study at that Calvin does not currently have an agreement with. In that case, we advise students to contact the school and ask them if they accept guest students for their Interim (sometimes called January Term or J-Term). If so, ask if they will waive tuition for students from other colleges with an agreement. (The agreement is VERY important. Without it, you have to pay the additional tuition to attend that interim exchange program.) If they agree, ask them to send an agreement to Calvin's Off-Campus Programs for consideration. Also, notify the OCP office that the agreement should be coming by emailing D. Ellens.

What does it cost?

The exchange agreement allows for tuition to be waived at the visiting institution. Students continue to pay their host institution Interim tuition, as if the student had remained on-campus. Generally, students pay the room and board fee of the host college, as well as, application fees. Each school determines its own fees. These are the rates currently available:
