Interim 2009: Exchange Program

What is the Interim Exchange Program?

The Interim Exchange Program allows qualified students from other 4-1-4 colleges to attend Calvin during the Interim without paying tuition if those schools permit Calvin students to attend their Interims on a similar basis. Likewise, Calvin students are allowed to study for interim at other 4-1-4 schools which have exchange agreements with Calvin.

Costs for a Calvin student visiting another institution

With an Interim Exchange agreement, Calvin students are not responsible to pay tuition at the host institution. Tuition fees are waived. However, Calvin students are responsible to pay for room and board fees*, application fees, housing depositis, and any special course fees. Occasionally, host institutions many have additional fees which will be noted in their information. Students are responsible for transportation expenses to and from the host institution.

*Typically, students are required to live on-campus, unless special arrangements are made with the host institution regarding on-campus housing availablity and/or family living near the host institution.

Calvin Students

In the past, Calvin has had Interim Exchange agreements with such schools as the following:

Augustana College, Austin College, Berea College, Bethel College, Eastern Nazarene, Gustavus Adolphus, Hastings College, Huntington College, University of La Verne, Messiah College, Salem College (for women), Taylor University, Whitworth College, and the University of Wisconsin (Eau Claire).

This list is by no means all-inclusive, nor is it guaranteed that any of the above schools will be willing to facilitate another interim exchange agreement (although it is quite likely).

If you are a Calvin student with an interest in an interim exchange with a particular college or university, we request that you contact the Registrar's Office at that institution and inquire as to whether or not they would be willing to entertain such an agreement with Calvin. If they are receptive, please contact us at the Off-Campus Programs Office; we will pick up the process at that point.

Calvin Student Applications

There are several parts to the application process. Please make sure to complete all sections.

1. Interim Exchange Application - Complete and return to the Registrar's Office. You will receive notification of this approval or disapproval in 1-2 weeks. Once approved, you may apply directly to the college you wish to attend for the interim.

2. Waiver and Release Agreement for Calvin College Off-Campus Study Programs - By signing the interim application, you agree that you have read and understand this legal waiver. If you have any questions, please see the Off-Campus Programs Office.

3. Pre-approval of Transfer Credit form - To verify the credits you are taking off-campus will transfer to Calvin for the correct courses. Complete and return to the Registrar's Office.

4. Registration - It is VERY important that you register for the program once approved by Calvin and the host institution. Email choekstr@calvin.edu with your name, student number, and that you are registering for the "Interim Exchange at _______________ (name of the school)". You will NOT receive credit for the interim unless you register!
