Program Information: Honors

To graduate with 'Honors' in the nursing major the student must:

  1. Obtain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 within the nursing major by the time of graduation. (3.3 for class of 2006).
  2. Obtain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 overall by the time of graduation.
  3. Complete 6 honors courses: 3 courses outside the nursing major and 3 within the nursing major, one of which is Nursing 380, the capstone course.
  4. Arrange for honors work in a specific course with the faculty teaching the course and the nursing honors advisor. Any course in the nursing major may be taken for honors.
  5. Meet with the nursing honors advisor no later than April of the year they are admitted to the upper division nursing major to discuss courses in the nursing major. They will receive information in order to select the courses they may wish to take for honors in the major. Students typically receive notification of their admission to the upper division major during March.
  6. Meet with the honors advisor no later than March of their Junior year to plan their Senior honors thesis, project or portfolio.
  7. Submit an honors thesis, project or portfolio as part of Nursing 380, the capstone course in the nursing major. Other requirements include:
    1. Submit their honors project proposal to at least 2 professors in the nursing department for review.
    2. Present the results of their honors project in a public forum or group as appropriate.
    3. Participate regularly in departmental presentations or seminars as indicated.
