Nursing Department Earns CCNE Accreditation

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) granted the Calvin College Department of Nursing full accreditation, with no citations, for the maximum period of time as of April 21, 2004.

This stamp of excellence followed a multi-year process of developing and implementing an exciting new curriculum to prepare nurses at the baccalaureate level. The Department engaged in vigorous self-study and hosted a three person accreditation team on November 10-12, 2003. The accreditation team met with college administrators, faculty, students, and agency representatives as well as visiting classes and practicum sites.

The site visitors applauded our efforts by quoting one of our agency partners who said, "As I see Calvin students in clinical practice, they integrate ethical decision making, recognize the spirituality of the client, and view the nursing profession as a calling. I not only see leadership, but I see a class of leaders."

Accreditation by CCNE is integral to our graduates' ability to secure employment and gain admission to graduate school.
