New Member Induction | November 15, 2008

The Great Room at Prince Conference Center was the setting for the New Member Induction Ceremony and Brunch for Kappa Epsilon Chapter-At-Large (KE), Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI).  As one of the four baccalaureate nursing school members of KE, Calvin had the honor of hosting this celebration and of inducting sixteen new members of the Calvin Nursing graduating class of 2009.  The speaker for the event was Patti VanDort, Vice President of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer at Holland Hospital, currently the only Magnet Hospital in West Michigan.

2008 Sigma Theta Tau Induction CeremonyTo be eligible for membership in STTI a student must have completed fifty percent of the required nursing curriculum in a baccalaureate nursing degree program, and rank in the highest 35 percent of their class in scholarship.  Calvin students are invited to join in the fall of their last year of the program and are inducted at the fall ceremony.

Calvin Nursing faculty had the opportunity to nominate one student for an Outstanding Student Performance award.  This year Morgan Briggs received that award along with one student from each of the other three colleges, Grand Valley State University, Hope College, and Ferris State University. Morgan’s qualifications for the award include Honors status at Calvin, volunteer work as an ESL instructor and in national and international nursing experiences, leadership for a college conference on international development, and living in a Project Neighborhood house.
