During the January Interim, 2006, seven nursing students went to the Dominican Republic for 15 days. The Dominican Republic is a beautiful tropical island in the Caribbean Ocean, where the average citizen has a very low income and many health needs. This interim provided nursing students with the opportunity to explore the health care system and health needs of the warm and hospitable, yet needy people of the Dominican Republic. They provided nursing care in both urban and rural health clinics with ample opportunity to interact with both residents and health care professionals of the island. In addition students learned about the work of Christian missions and interacted with missionaries in various areas of the island.
