Pearl Shangkuan receives a signature choral series through earthsongs
Professor of music, Dr. Pearl Shangkuan, has recently been given a signature choral music series through earthsongs, a very reputable publisher of global choral music. The series will be called "Mosaic: the Pearl Shangkuan Choral Series" and will feature music from around the world as well as American works. This series will officially be launched at the national convention of the American Choral Directors Association later this week in Oklahoma City, a convention with an expected attendance of thousands of choral conductors from around the country and from other countries.
Pearl writes, "Seeing a piece through the long process from conception to delivery is deeply satisfying for me. "Shopping" for composers and new works is also very energizing for me. I'm honored that earthsongs would give me this opportunity." Shangkuan is also the music editor of the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship music series, published by GIA, a series geared toward the church community.
The inaugural piece for this new series is a piece commissioned for the Calvin Women's Chorale by Paul Caldwell and Calvin alumni Sean Ivory called "Joshua: A hebrew Canticle." Joshua will be premiered by the Women's Chorale in their spring concert in May.
