Robert Nordling and several Calvin Orchestra members travel to Argentina
On December 13, Calvin Orchestra conductor, Robert Nordling, left with a group of Calvin music students on a musical missions trip to Argentina. The five students, Esther Miller, Dathan Hamann, Mallory Scholten, Sarah
Wittingen and Paul Nienhuis are the five principal players for each of the string sections in the Calvin Orchestra. While in Argentina, the group worked with an Argentinian composer and music professor, Horacio Vivares to rehearse and record some of his music. This music will be performed again in late January at the Calvin Worship Symposium when Maestro Vivares will be a guest presenter. The group
also presented several side-by-side concerts with music schools both in Buenos Aires and in Mar del Plata.
The trip was co-sponsored by the Calvin Institute for Christian Worship and the Calvin Music Department. Local music store Meyer Music donated 15 musical instruments that the group brought with them to give to one of the poorer schools.
