At Calvin, the study and performance of music are important and enriching parts of our academic community. The diverse group of outstanding teachers on Calvin's music faculty is committed to helping students become engaged performers and perceptive listeners. Students who major in music can choose from concentrations in performance, theory and composition, music history, music education and music in Christian worship.
Music majors and non-majors alike have opportunities to perform with any of thirteen vocal and instrumental ensembles. Our students and our
community also have the chance to hear and interact with some of the best musicians in the world through the Artist Series of Calvin College.
Calvin's long tradition of music-making continues to inspire the life of the college and the surrounding community. Today, more than 500 students are members of Calvin's musical ensembles. Encouraging this enthusiasm for ensemble performance, and sustaining musical excellence, are at the heart of Calvin's music program. Friends of Music has been established to ensure this special legacy of music-making for generations to come.
Friends of Music is an organization established to provide annual scholarships for study in the Department of Music at Calvin. It supports Calvin's high standards of performance and study by encouraging Calvin music students in their scholarship and creativity.
Through membership contributions, Friends of Music seeks to continually enhance the standard of music on campus by:
- Drawing talented musicians to Calvin College
- Building an ever-widening support base for student performance at Calvin
- Celebrating and continuing the legacy left by Calvin music alumni
