Biographical Information
Baritone Keith Brautigam joined the music faculty of Calvin College in 2003 as Professor of Music. A national and international performer, Dr. Brautigam made his Cleveland Orchestra debut singing the baritone solo in Orff’s Carmina Burana under the direction of Robert Porco. Dr. Brautigam returned to Severance Hall in Cleveland in November 2003 as the baritone soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra in Handel’s Israel in Egypt.
As an oratorio and concert soloist, Dr. Brautigam’s other credits include the Brahms' Ein Deutches Requiem with both the Grand Rapids Symphony and Southfield Symphony; Handel's Messiah with the Calvin Oratorio Society; J. Ravel's Chanson Madecasses with the Chicago Ensemble; J. S. Bach's Coffee Cantata with the Grand Rapids Symphony; Mendelssohn's Elijah and Haydn's Creation at the historical Moody Church in Chicago; and performances with the Bach Festival of the Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music.
Dr. Brautigam’s opera engagements include Germont in La Traviata with Chautauqua Opera, Schaunard in La Boheme with Cleveland Opera, Papageno in Die Zauberflote with Opera Grand Rapids; Tonio in I Pagliacci with Skylight Opera Theater of Milwaukee; Pantalone in Mozart's "new" opera, The Jewel Box, with Chicago Opera Theater; as well as performances with other companies throughout the United States.
As a recitalist and pedagogue, Dr. Brautigam has performed recitals and conducted master classes throughout the U.S. and abroad. He has appeared at the Festival International de Musica de Buenos Aires -- performing both at the famous Teatro Colon and the Salon Dorado of the Casa de la Cultura. Dr. Brautigam was also invited to the renowned Colon Instituto to conduct master classes with their singers in association with the Teatro Colon.
Prior to his appointment at Calvin, Dr. Brautigam was a tenured full professor at the Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music, where he served as chair of the voice department. In addition, he has also served on the faculty of the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, and Huntington College in Indiana. Dr. Brautigam's degrees include a Bachelor of Music from Grand Rapids Baptist College, and Masters and Doctor of Music degrees in vocal performance from the Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana.
