The Calvin Jazz Band is a full big band directed by Keaton Akins. This ensemble was formed in 2005 and focuses on playing a variety of repertoire and developing improvisational skills and technique. In addition to performing at the Fall Music Festival, the Jazz Band gives a concert each semester.
The Jazz Band rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Auditions:
Auditions for Jazz Band will be held during the first week of classes in September. Interested students should prepare scales; plan to sight read a piece for their particular instrument; play a prepared piece; and improvise (optional).
Instrumentation is limited to alto, tenor and bari sax, trombone, trumpet, guitar, bass (upright or electric) piano and drum set.
