Choirs
To audition for Campus Choir, Capella, or Women's Chorale:
Scheduling an audition (for upperclass students): Please contact the director of the choir to schedule an audition time.
Audition: The audition will consist of vocalizations, sight reading, and tonal memory. (Additional requirements may be necessary depending on the choir. Contact the director for specific information.)
Please note:
- The Gospel Choir does not require an audition. If you are interested in participating in this group, please add Musc 182 to your class schedule.
- The Oratorio Society has different audition procedures. See their website for more information.
Bands
To audition for Calvin Band or Knollcrest Band:
Scheduling an audition (for upperclass students): Please contact Dr. Engle to schedule an audition time.
Audition: Please have a prepared piece: solo (sonata, concerto, etc.) and/or etudes. The piece must reflect contrasting musical styles. The recommended length is 4-6 minutes. The audition will also have some sight-reading.

Jazz Band
To audition for the Calvin Jazz Band
Scheduling an audition (for upperclass students): Auditions for the Jazz Band take place in the fall, right before the start of the fall semester. When you register for classes, be sure to keep room in your schedule for the Jazz Band rehearsals which are on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 pm. Please watch for emails and signs about the exact days and times for auditions.
Audition:
- prepare
scales up to 4 flats and 2 sharps
- sight read a piece
- play a blues solo in the key of either F of Bb concert
Orchestra
To audition for the Calvin Orchestra:
Scheduling an audition (for upperclass students): Please contact Professor Nordling to schedule an audition time.
Audition: Please have excerpts from two contrasting pieces prepared to play. The audition will also include some scales and sight-reading. Bring your own instrument unless you have made arrangements to borrow one of our department instruments.

Flute Choir
Membership is open to any flute student who has played flute in high school or in a Calvin ensemble. A placement audition is required. Contact Jill Brown for audition information.
Handbell Ensemble
