Conrad Tao, 2012 Gilmore Young Artist, piano
7:30 p.m. -
Covenant Fine Arts Center Recital Hall
The Music Department at Calvin is proud to partner with The Gilmore International Keyboard Festival to present the 2012 Gilmore Young Artist Conrad Tao
Hailed by renowned music critic Harris Goldsmith as “the most exciting prodigy to ever come my way” (Musical America), 17-year-old Chinese-American pianist Conrad Tao was discovered playing children’s songs on the piano at 18 months of age. Born in Urbana, Illinois, the 2012 Gilmore Young Artist gave his first recital at age four and by eight had made his concerto debut. Last fall Tao filled in for pianist Louis Lortie on one day’s notice in Fort Worth’s Bass Performance Hall presented by Cliburn Concerts that critics raved as being “technically brilliant” (Star-Telegram) and a “gripping performance by turns mysterious and defiant” (Dallas Morning News).
Program:
Bach - Italian Concerto in F, BWV 971Conrad Tao - Three Songs
Chopin - Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise brilliante, Op. 2
Liszt - Au bord d’une Source
Liszt - Vallee d’Obermann
Liszt - Rigoletto Paraphrase
Stravinsky - Three Scenes for Piano from Petrouchka
Tickets are required for this concert and are available at the Calvin College Box Office. Tickets are $10 for adults and free for students and children.
