Piano Pedagogy Workshop with Dr. Mary Scanlan
6 p.m. - 9 p.m.- Covenant Fine Arts Center Rm #252

The Department of Music will be hosting a Piano Pedagogy Workshop on Wednesday, January 11. Guest clinician Mary Scanlan will be in residence for the event which will take place from 6pm-9pm at the Covenant Fine Arts Center Rm#252. The workshop will focus on considerations pertinent to pianists in the early stages of developing their teaching careers. The workshop will be divided into two parts. The first segment will include the recommended bibliography for the piano teacher and a discussion of the approaches to first steps in reading, rhythm, and technique. The segment will be an examination of early level repertoire and its' implications for dealing with aspects of musicianship.

Mary Scanlan has a doctorate in piano pedagogy from the University of Illinois and master's and bachelor's degrees in piano performance from the Universities of Iowa and Wisconsin, respectively.

All pianists and piano instructors are invited to attend. The event is free, tickets are not required.

"Gaudete!" (Rejoice)

Please join the Calvin Alumni Choir, under the direction of Pearl Shangkuan, for their winter performance titled "Gaudete" (Rejoice) on January 14. The performance will take place at 8pm in the Covenant Fine Arts Center Auditorium.
Tickets are required. Tickets go on sale December 5 and are available at the Calvin College Box Office - $15 for adults and $5 for students.

Calvin Symposium on Worship
Calvin College Campus

Worshipers and worship leaders from around the world gather each January for a time of fellowship, worship, and learning, seeking to deepen and integrate all aspects of worship, develop their gifts, encourage each other, and renew their commitment to the full ministry of the church. This event is co-sponsored with The Center for Excellence in Preaching at Calvin Theological Seminary.

The Calvin Symposium on Worship offers a vast array of seminars and workshops that will take place Thursday through Saturday, January 26-28, 2012. Thursday is devoted to seminars which allow in-depth study of worship-related topics. The main schedule of hour-long workshops begins on Friday and is repeated in the same time slots on Saturday. The conference ends with worship Saturday afternoon. Each day of Symposium begins and ends with a worship service.  All are welcome to sign up for one, two or three days of sessions.  Student rate (high school or college students) is only $15 a day.
