Ensemble Montage Concert
7:30 pm -
Calvin Seminary Chapel
Enter a primordial world where buzzing insects, bird calls, thundering storms, and ancient whispered voices haunt and intrigue. Ensemble Montage presents a concert of George Crumb's music in celebration of his 80th birthday. Crumb makes creative use of traditional classical instruments played in non-traditional ways, and combines the result with instruments such as the mandolin, harmonica, musical saw, bowed wine goblets, and toy piano. Even dancers join in. The program includes Idyll for the Misbegotten, Black Angels, and Ancient Voices of Children.
Formed in 1997, Ensemble Montage is dedicated to presenting kaleidoscopic combinations of chamber music ranging from the baroque trio sonata to music written by the group's very much alive member-composer Alexander Miller. The group specializes in repertoire that mixes strings, woodwinds, and piano. The group expands and contracts as repertoire demands – they've added percussion, voice, trumpet, an extra viola, double bass, and even accordion on occasion.
The concert will be held on Tuesday, November 10 at 7:30 pm in the Calvin Seminary Chapel. Admission is free; no tickets are required.
