Collegium Musicum Concert

Calvin Seminary Chapel
The Collegium Musicum, Calvin College's Early Music ensemble, will present its Spring concert on Friday, April 9, at 8:00 p.m. in the Calvin Seminary Chapel. The program features music from the fourteenth-century Llibre Vermell de Montserrat and the Cantigas d'amigo, a thirteenth-century song cycle by Martin Codax, together with vocal and instrumental music from late medieval Italy and France. The Collegium Musicum is directed by Professor Tim Steele of the Calvin College Department of Music.
Admission is free; no tickets are required.

Oratorio Society performance with Calvin Orchestra

The Calvin Oratorio Society and Calvin Orchestra will present Haydn's "The Creation" on Saturday, April 17 at Sunshine Community Church. General admission tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets will be available starting on March 15 at the Calvin College Box Office.

The Calvin Music Department presents a Chamber Winds Recital on Friday, April 23. This concert will feature performances by student trios, quartets, and quintets. The evening will close with music by a larger chamber ensemble, conducted by Dr. Tiffany Engle. The recital will take place at 8 p.m. in the Calvin Seminary College Chapel. Artist Series: Ivan Moshchuk, piano

Gilmore Young Artist for 2010, Ivan Moshchuk, was born in Russia and moved to Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan with his parents when he was four years old. He is now a first-year student at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where he studies with the eminent piano mentor, Boris Slutsky. Moshchuk attended the International Music Academy in Pilsen, Czech Republic, in the summers of 2006 and 2008. The eighteen-year-old pianist was co first-prize winner of the 2007 Arthur Fraser Concerto Competition in South Carolina and was a semifinalist at the Oberlin International Piano Competition in that same year.
Ivan Moshchuk will perform at Calvin College as part of the the Artist Series on Saturday, April 24 at 8 p.m. in the Calvin College Chapel. Tickets are available at the Calvin College Box Office.

Calvin Chapel Choir Room
Steinway Artist Kevin Cole has delighted audiences with a repertoire that includes the best of 20th century American music. Kevin Cole’s performances, especially his interpretation of Gershwin, have prompted accolades from some of the foremost critics in American music. “When Cole sits down at the piano, you would swear Gershwin himself was at work…Cole stands as the best Gershwin pianist in America today,” wrote Howard Reich, arts critic for the Chicago Tribune. A native of Bay City, Michigan, Cole graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy and soon after garnered the praises of legends like Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, E.Y. Harburg, Hugh Martin, Burton Lane, Stephen Sondheim and members of the Jerome Kern and Gershwin families. He has performed across the country and around the world to acclaim.
