Autophagy is a cellular recycling process that contributes to cell survival during nutrient stress or chemotherapy. This process is highly complex, making it difficult to study the pathway as a whole. In complex biological systems, mathematical modeling is often an effective way to describe the system, make novel hypotheses, and predict the results of interventions. I'll give a basic introduction to autophagy and talk about the development of a mathematical model for this process.
