IDS Scholarships

 

Patricia S. Duthler Scholarship

The Patricia S. Duthler Scholarship is funded by Patricia S. Duthler, a local business woman, to honor the business tradition of her own family and to help create leaders who use their knowledge and skills in the interest of poor people around the world.  It invests in students who exhibit great potential for leadership in bringing about economic and community development in and among the world’s developing nations. Candidates are students with senior status as of fall 2008 who will also be full-time students at Calvin for the 2008-09 academic year. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be an IDS major and demonstrate financial need. The Scholarship will be awarded for the 2008-09 academic year in the amount of $3000. The deadline for application is February 29th. Applications can be found in the Econ/Bus Department Office or as an attachment in the Information tab of the IDS Knightvision Organization.

 

The Dr. Vincent P., Jr.  and Alida W. Miller Scholarship

 
The Dr. Vincent P., Jr.  and Alida W. Miller Scholarship  has been established by Dr. Vincent P. and Alida W. Miller of Indiana, PA in support of students majoring or minoring in International Development Studies for their off-campus semester.  Dr. and Mrs. Miller have long been involved in issues related to a Christian approach to Third World development through his academic research, paper presentations and writings and through her support and assistance in doing field work in a number of underdeveloped areas, much of which has been in collaboration with Reformed mission agencies. Candidates are current Calvin College students planning to enroll full time for the academic year 2008-09. Students must be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year and be planning to major or minor in IDS. Students must show sensitivity to cultural diversity and be planning to take part in a semester abroad program in either the fall or spring semester of the 2008-09 academic year. The scholarship will be awarded with some preference to applicants who have a basic understanding of geographic theories of economic development. This scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,500. The deadline for application is February 29th. Applications can be found in the Econ/Bus Department Office or as an attachment in the Information tab of the IDS Knightvision Organization.

 

The Business/International Development Scholarship

The Business/International Development Scholarship was founded by an alumnus of Calvin College, it was their desire to support a student’s exploration of a business calling to expand and promote God’s kingdom in a developing country. Candidates are current Calvin College students planning to enroll full time for the academic year 2008-09. Applicants must be entering their junior or senior year and be pursuing some combination of degrees in IDS, Business and/or Economics. Candidates must be planning on a semester abroad in either Ghana or China for Fall 2008. Students applying must be able to articulate both a personal testimony and a potential calling for using business gifts/skills in developing country, as well as demonstrate financial need. The scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $3,500. The deadline for application is February 29th. Applications can be found in the Econ/Bus Department Office or as an attachment in the Information tab of the IDS Knightvision Organization.
