Reflections and Challenges in Partnership
Fri, Feb 6; 11.00 - noon
In spite of the widespread use of the term “partnership" in development circles, defining the concept has proven to be elusive. We will explore the many concepts and definitions of partnership and try to understand its link to other terms such as solidarity, mutual cooperation, responsibility, and reciprocal obligation. There are also difficulties in the implementation of partnership when two or more organizations from different countries and context want to joint together in a commitment to development. Tensions arise around North and South relationships, confronting the international and national grounds, donor-recipient roles, programs and project approaches, and the concept and practice of power in the midst of last terms. Does our Christian understanding have to say something about it? Does Jesus’ example illuminate our nowadays practice of partnership? The practice of a true partnership could transform our lives and the lives of others if we are willing to make changes in our vision and practice of life.
