Colloquia
The History department hosts a variety of lectures by visiting and local scholars once a month on Wednesday afternoons. History faculty present their research, and senior honors students present their theses in May. Great refreshements are always provided, and we encourage everyone at Calvin to come.
History loung
e
At the end of the hall of History department offices is a lounge for students and faculty. In the afternoons, you can enjoy coffee and use the large table to study or read books, journals, and magazines in the History collection. Or you can sit in the comfortable chairs and talk with other History students and faculty.
Majors committee
Both faculty and student members of the majors committee plan various activities including movie nights and parties. Find out how to get involved and meet other History majors by contacting committee chair Prof. Bruce Berglund.
Social events
Each year, the professors host a Christmas party for History majors and minors that includes great food and a chance to talk with fellow students and faculty. At the end of the year, they host a reception to honor scholarship awardees, honors students, and other award winners. This event also always includes some sort of contest between the faculty and the students for the coveted "turkey" trophy.
