Corrine
E. Kass Scholarships
Scholarships
of up to $1,400, in honor of Corrine E. Kass who administered
the graduate studies program at Calvin from 1984-1992 are awarded
to students in the Master of Education Program who are attending
full time; prorated amounts are available to students enrolled less
than full time. Candidates must have an undergraduate grade point
average of 3.3 or higher, be committed to leadership responsibilities
in the education profession, and give some evidence of financial

Mary Louise Huizenga Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the children of John S. and Anne Huizenga to honor their sister, Mary Louise Huizenga, who was born with Down's Syndrome. Mary received much love, generous support and educational assistance from many kind and loving educators during her life time. In recognition of their contributions to Mary's life, the family would like to assist students who have chosen to pursue a master's degree in Special Education at Calvin. Candidates for this scholarship must be a professing Christian teacher who is committed to furthering his or her education in the field of Special Education for graduate credit. Preference will be given to persons desiring to be employed in a special education program in the school setting or to those needing additional training in special education. Current employment in either a special education school or a regular education setting is acceptable. Persons employed in a Christian Learning Center network will be encouraged to apply. Financial need may be considered. One scholarship of $1,500 was awarded in 2006-2007. To apply for this scholarship contact the Education Department/Graduate Programs Office. The
Fred & Carol J. Van Den Bosch Scholarships
This scholarship, established by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Van Den Bosch,
is provided to assist experienced Christian teachers to return to
full- or part-time education in the M.Ed. learning disabilities
(LD) program. To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must
be a professional Christian teacher, must be committed to continuing
in this profession, and must be enrolled for graduate credit in
a minimum of two courses per semester. The recipient is required
to assist in laboratory components of the M.Ed.-LD courses, demonstrate
potential for advanced academic scholarship, and demonstrate financial
need based on criteria for financial aid at Calvin. Usually $2,000
or more is available each year with individual amounts depending
on the number of qualified candidates and their enrollment status. back |
Kalsbeek
Memorial Scholarships
The family and friends of Wilhelmina Kalsbeek have established a
fund in her memory to honor her missionary work in China from 1922
to 1949. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students from
mainland China to recieve a Christian college education in order
for them to help bring Christianity to the Chinese people. To be
eligible for the scholarship a student should be from mainland China,
committed to return to China, proficient in speaking and writing
English, and qualified to do college level work. Other criteria
considered in the selection include the student's academic potential,
potential for Christian service in China, and financial need. About
$4,500 is available for scholarships each year with individual amounts
dependent on the number of qualified candidates.back |
Dorothy J. Thurston Scholarship
These grants are available for full- or part-time students pursuing graduate-level study (Master's M.D., Ph.D.) at the accredited university of their choice in Michigan. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, have a minimum 3.0 cumulative college grade point average and must have been Kent County residents for a minimum of two years (at time of application or prior to the beginning of their undergraduate education). The scholarship is renewable, provided the student maintains a 3.0 grade point average and there is continued financial need. Guy D. and Mary Edith Halladay Graduate Scholarships
These grants are available for students undertaking postgraduate courses in a field of their choice at colleges in Michigan. Applicants must have been residents of Kent County for a minimum of five years, have a minimum 3.0 college grade point average, and demonstrate financial need. Roy
Johnson Trust Scholarships
Any blind person, regardless of sex, race, color, religion, or age,
who has received a bachelor's degree from an accredited college
in the United States, is eligible for consideration for grants from
this trust. Factors taken into account in considering applicants
include their financial condition and scholastic record. Other considerations
include recommendations from college faculty and officials and the
applicants' intended use of their post-graduate college education.
Funds must be used to pursue graduate studies in law, education,
science, music and other disciplines in an accredited college in
the State of Michigan. Grants are made for tuition, housing, or
