Background
A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, I took my degrees at Calvin College
and the University of Michigan and also studied at the Universität Göttingen
(Fulbright 1964-65), the University of Irvine (NEH, summer 1977), the
Carl Duisburg Gesellschaft (Business German, summer 1982), and attended
the Bonn-Berlin Seminar (Fulbright, summer 1985). As of 2000, I have been
to Germany a total of ten times. I have taught German at South Christian
High School (Grand Rapids, Michigan, 1958-62), the University of Michigan
(1966-68) and Calvin College (1969-to present).
