  • After graduating with a BS in Environmental Science from Wheaton College in 1996, Professor Skillen earned an MA in Theology from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, which he completed in 2000. He then studied at Cornell University where he received his PhD in Natural Resource Policy in 2006.

Professional Experience

  • Professor Skillen taught at Valparaiso University, in Indiana, for two years before joining the GEO department at Calvin in 2008. On a temporary leave from Calvin, he taught at the Oregon Extension during the 2013-2015 academic years.

Research Interests

  • Federal land and resource policy
  • The American west
