Professor Bjelland received his BCE (Civil Engineering) from the University of Minnesota, with High Distinction. He then went on to get a MSCE (Environmental Engineering) from University of Washington. Next, he studied at Regent College, in Vancouver, where he earned a MCS (Theology and Ethics). Finally, he returned to the University of Minnesota to get a Ph.D. in Geography. He was awarded both the Fulbright German Studies Award, and the Fulbright Cardiff University Award.

Professional Experience

He worked as an Environmental engineering consultant between 1988-1994. He then taught at Gustavus Adolphus College, Saint Peter, MN from 1998-2013, before joining the GEO department in 2013.
