Title: Planets, Stars, and Galaxies

Description: F and S, core. A survey of the major astronomical
objects, such as planets, stars, and galaxies; a study of their characteristics
and their organization into a dynamic, structured universe; an investigation
of the processes now occurring in the universe and the methods used to
study them. The course includes a presentation of the evidence of the
history and development of the universe, a description of cosmological
models, and a discussion of possible Christian responses to them. Laboratory.

Title: Contemporary Astronomy

Description: F, core. An introduction to modern astronomy and astrophysics
for students concentrating in the area of science and mathematics. Major
topics include the nature of stars and galaxies, the physical processes
occurring in various celestial objects, and the current cosmological theories.
Lectures, laboratory exercises, and observing projects. Prerequisites:
Mathematics 161 and one course in college physics other than 110, 111,
or 112.
