Dune Management - Elevated Boardwalks

An elevated boardwalk is a form of controlled access. Boardwalks enable large numbers of people to visit dune areas while minimizing the stress on dune surfaces.

Elevated boardwalks allow natural dune processes to continue by permitting the natural movement of sand under the structure.

Elevated boardwalks may also permit natural vegetation to grow under the boardwalk, particularly if gaps in the boardwalk allow light to reach the surface underneath.
