When waves reach a foredune during
storms or periods of high lake levels, sand and vegetation is removed
from the dune. The erosion may produce a nearly-vertical scarp.
The slope adjusts to more stable slope angles as the dune sand dries
when the water recedes.
Foredune erosion also
occurs by wind when blowouts form on
the dune. |
