Passport Placement
(required of entering first-year students)

Placement into the language courses in the French Department is by examination. Students are expected to express their level of competence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Although the extent of one's prior exposure to French may affect the placement, all students should expect to be placed into a level of French commensurate with their degree of competence. Placement tests are administered only in the summer. They are not administered mid-year or mid-semester.
