Advanced English Communication - English 390
This is an advanced course designed to further develop critical-thinking skills and English language. The focus will be on American values in tension as they appear in literature, film, and contemporary culture. Through a variety of reading and writing assignments, students will be challenged to learn how those values apply to American religion, politics, education, leisure, and so on. We will read American fiction, non-fiction, drama, and poetry, in order to discover the complex nature of those values. Students will write several short academic essays in response to their readings, some of which may be based on research.
