Apply For Entrada

The application deadline for Entrada 2008 is March 15. Juniors (Grade 11) Seniors (Grade 12)

Juniors (Grade 11)

United States ethnic minority students (African, Hispanic, Asian and Native Americans) who are currently enrolled in their junior year of high school (grade 11), can apply for the Entrada Scholars Program if they meet the following criteria:

• Citizenship (or legal permanent residency) in the United States
• A high school Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
• Enrolled in a college preparatory track in high school

You must also submit the following components by March 15th:

• Entrada Scholars Program Application (.pdf)
• Completed Essays
• High School Transcripts
• Academic Recommendation
• Personal Recommendation
• ACT or SAT scores if you have taken them*

*Students who have not submitted their official test scores to Calvin College, or whose scores do not meet Calvin's minimum admissions requirements, will be required to take the ACT when they arrive on campus.

Why Apply?

Entrada Scholars who participate after their junior year of high school gain a significant college experience that can be extremely helpful in their senior year. Not only will they be able to apply college-level study skills to their high school course work, they will have a solid beginning to their college search process.

The Entrada experience is extremely helpful in understanding what aspects of college life are important when choosing a college to attend. Participation in Entrada will also reflect positively on college applications.

For scholars who come to Calvin, the credit and grade received during Entrada will become part of their Calvin academic record. If students choose to attend a college or university other than Calvin, they can request a copy of their Calvin College transcript from the Registrar's Office, who will assist them in transferring the earned credit to the college of their choice.

Seniors (Grade 12)

North American ethnic minority students (African, Hispanic, Asian and Native Americans) who are currently enrolled in their senior year of high school (grade 12), can apply for the Entrada Scholars Program if they meet the following criteria:

• Citizenship (or legal permanent residency) in the United States or Canada
• Admission to Calvin College (Please apply online!)

You must also complete an Entrada Scholars Program supplemental application (.pdf) including an essay response by March 15th.

Why Apply?

The Entrada Scholars Program is an excellent opportunity for seniors in high school who are preparing to attend Calvin College in the fall. Entrada helps make the transition from high school into college go smoothly on many different levels.

Academically, scholars are prepared to employ new college-level study skills learned from classes and coaching sessions. The intensity of Entrada's month-long program builds strong friendships with fellow scholars who will be starting Calvin together. Scholars are also introduced to faculty and staff at the college who provide a network of support and programs to tap into.
