Uwem Akpan
Uwem Akpan, a native of Nigeria, was ordained as a Jesuit priest in 2003. After receiving his MFA in creative writing from the University of Michigan, Akpan went on to serve as a fellow at the University of Michigan’s Institute for the Humanities in the fall of 2006. His short stories “My Parent’s Bedroom”—a finalist for the Caine Prize for African Writing—and “An Ex-Mas Feast” have appeared in the New Yorker and are included in his first short-story collection, Say You’re One of Them, to be published in the summer of 2008.
