CLOSED (3.27.08) "Writing Persona Poems" (led by Thom Satterlee)
Saturday, April 19, 2008
3:15 - 4:30 p.m.
In The Confessions Augustine asks himself, “Suppose I had been Moses?” Then, to justify such imaginative presumptuousness, he reasons, “for we all come from the same lump, and what is man but that You are mindful of him.” Writers of persona poems—poems in which the poet pretends to be someone else—may follow Augustine’s lead and discover new ways of seeing their worlds. This workshop begins with a brief survey of persona poems, followed by an invitation to draft your own, and concluding with an opportunity to share work. (duration: seventy-five minutes)
Limited to 15 participants

It's difficult to write about God because none of us feels worthy to speak of the Holy, to deal with the Reality beyond the spatiotemporal. This workshop is about trying to express the authenticity of our experienced presence of God without resorting to denominational cliches. Please bring ideas and passages from your own writing to discuss with the group. (duration: two hours)
Limited to 15 participants per session
