Three Days of English
On the weekend of Friday, April 15, the department will host a number of events for visiting students thinking about majoring in English.
Thursday, April 14
3:30-5:00 Honors thesis presentations by current seniors, followed by a reception. CFAC 222
Friday, April 15
11:30-12:20 Fridays at Calvin students visit English classes.
12:30-1:45 Dr. Gordon Campbell of Leicester University meets with English majors. (Dr. Campbell is lecturing on the King James Bible later in the day; see below.)
1:30-2:30 Department chairs Bill Vande Kopple and Elizabeth Vander Lei introduce the English Department. Main office.
3:30-3:20 Hot cocoa and biscotti with English majors. CFAC student lobby.
3:30 Calvin Writers Read. Sign up in the English department to read five minutes worth of your own writing! CFAC student lobby.
3:30 A lecture entitled "1611" by Dr. Gordon Campbell, celebrating the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. Seminary auditorium.
5:00 Pizza party and career panel. Three graduates of the English department discuss that persistent question: "What can you do with an English major?" Please RSVP in the English department so that we order enough pizza! CFAC student lobby.
7:30 Calvin Theatre Company presents Shakespeare's Hamlet, with discussion following at the home of Prof. Rienstra.
Saturday, April 16
The English department hosts Michigan's second annual Medieval and Renaissance Studies Undergraduate Conference.
9:00 Reading of Milton's Paradise Lost. Refreshments will be served; come and go as you please. Library lobby. For more information, contact Prof. Urban.
