robert finch
Widely regarded as one of America's leading nature writers, Robert Finch is the author of six collections of essays, including Common Ground: A Naturalist's Cape Cod (1981), which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for nonfiction, The Primal Place (1983), and Death of a Hornet and Other Cape Cod Essays (2001). His most recent book, The Iambics of Newfoundland: Notes from an Unknown Shore (2007), explores the people, geography, and wildlife of Newfoundland—a remote and lovely but often dangerously inhospitable place. Finch's essays have appeared in numerous magazines and journals, including The American Scholar, Georgia Review, New England Quarterly, RiverStyx, New York Times, and Los Angeles Times. His work has been widely anthologized and has been translated into both Japanese and Chinese. In October 2005, Finch began producing weekly radio commentaries for WCAI, an NPR affiliate of Boston's WGBH public radio station. He teaches creative non-fiction in the MFA program at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. Finch lives in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, with his wife, and spends summers in Newfoundland.
