Brian Doyle is an essayist, poet, and the author of several books, including The Wet Engine (2005) and The Grail: A Year Ambling and Shambling Through an Oregon Vineyard in Pursuit of the Best Pinot Noir Wine in the Whole Wild World (2006). His most recent book, Epiphanies and Elegies: Very Short Stories (2007), is a collection of delightful, accessible poems shot through with wonder, humor, faith, and Irish Catholic heritage. Doyle is the editor of Portland magazine at the University of Portland in Oregon. The publication has earned consecutive national gold medals as the finest small-circulation university magazine in the United States, and it also won the 2005 Sibley Award from Newsweek magazine. Doyle and his family live in Portland, Oregon.
